Blaenau Gwent Heritage Forum Day School: Inside Welsh Homes, 13 October, 11am

Our homes are often considered a reflection of our values, beliefs and attitudes. Isaac Haley lived at Glan-brĂ¢n in Carmarthenshire around 1900, and like many other wealthy home owners at that time he used new photographic technology to record the rooms of his home. Mr. Haley used a mirrored wardrobe to reflect his own image, allowing him to take this self-portrait. DI2012_0180, NPRN 96046.

Next Saturday, 13 October, Royal Commission staff member, Rachael Barnwell will be giving a lecture on Inside Welsh Homes at the Blaenau Gwent Heritage Forum Day School to be held at Bedwellty House, Tredegar. Other speakers for the day include Ritchie Rudd, who will be speaking on The Charge of the Light Brigade; Andrew Taylor, Barrister at Law, on Two Important Welsh Miscarriages of Justice; and Bryan Davies on  Dr William Price.

Following on from this, the Royal Commission’s Inside Welsh Homes touring exhibition will be on display at Bedwellty House from the 1 November until 5 January 2013. This will feature images drawn from the National Monuments Record of Wales, displayed alongside objects from the collections of the venue hosting the exhibition. The exhibition will be supported by the Royal Commission’s forthcoming book, Inside Welsh Homes, which will showcase about 200 key images from its vast archive.
